About Tom

I’m Tom Parkin and I am a 17 year old writer and aspiring journalist. I come from Evesham in Worcestershire and this is my website where I post fictional stories and articles on politics, Europe and current affairs.

I joined the Labour party in October 2013 and identify as a ‘Social Democrat’, leaning towards the ‘left’ of the party. I am a member of the human rights group Amnesty International which boasts more than 7 million members and supporters.

I am a member of the ‘European Movement UK’. The movement pushes for a “democratic, federal, enlarged European Union” and was founded in 1949.

I am also a slordtomparkinpicupporter of the Democracy in Europe Movement 2025 (DiEM25). The pro-European movement, founded by Yanis Varoufakis, aims to democratize the core institutions of the European Union.

My political influences include Yanis Varoufakis, Guy Verhofstadt and Noam Chomsky.

As well as independent blogging, I served as Director for Europe Policy at the grassroots US-based foreign policy think-tank Youth Collaboration on Foreign Affairs (YCoFA) between April and June 2017. I still continue to work for the organisation but on a political advisory level. The think-tank was set up and run by over forty-five young people across the world who share a common interest in politics and current affairs.

Other than politics, my interests are singing, playing the trumpet, archery, running and buying old books.

I hope you enjoy the site.

Many thanks,

*As of September 2015, I am the Mid-Worcestershire Constituency Labour Party’s Youth Officer. However, anything posted on this blog are my personal viewpoints and are not written to represent the local or national party. For other articles as Youth Officer, please visit the local party website here. In October 2016, I was re-elected as Youth Officer for the 2016-17 year.
